DEC, The Division for Early Childhood is one of seventeen
divisions of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). They are the largest international
organizations dedicated to improving educational outcomes for individuals with
exceptionalities, students with disabilities, and or the gifted. Their mission states they promote policies
and advances evidence-based practices that support families and enhance the optimal
development of young children who have or are at risk for developmental delays
and disabilities. The DEC publishes
journals such as the Journal of Early Intervention and Young Exceptional
Children which is focused on issues related to young children. They host a conference where professionals
from around the world take part in presentations and strategies as well as
discussions that will change the way professionals think about early
childhood. This website did not offer
employment opportunities. They are
located at http://www.dec-sped.org/
The Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI)
mission statement is to promote and support the optimal education, development
and well-being of children worldwide and to promote the professional growth of
educators and others who are committed to the needs of children in a changing
society (ACEI, n.d.). This organization

UNESCO, United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. This organization states that they work to
create the conditions for dialogue among civilization, cultures and peoples, based
upon respect for commonly shared values.
Their mission is to contribute to the building of peace, the eradication
of poverty, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through
education, the sciences, culture, communication and information(UNESCO, n.d.). UNESCO focuses on two global priorities
Africa and gender equality. One of
UNESCO’s objectives is to attain quality education for all and lifelong
learning. UNESCO is looking for
qualified people in the following areas Payroll Specialist, Treasury
Analyst, Systems and Web Development
Assistant. I would not be interested in
these positions. UNESCO’s website is http://www.unesco.org/new/en/unesco/about-us/who-we-are/introducing-unesco/

Fawn,
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of the DEC, but they seem interesting. I would definately like to attend one of their conferences, I bet there is a lot of information exhcanged. Great Post.
I have never heard of DEC either, but their conferences do sound like something I would like to attend as well. I have heard of ACEI before, but do not know much about it. Thank you for sharing it, their mission to children and professionals in our changing world makes it sound like a valuable resource. Great Post.
ReplyDeleteHi Fawn,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting the link to DEC. I took a minute to explore it a bit and I was impressed by the work they do. Although I have taken classes in special needs, I always have more questions when I have a special needs child in my class--this resource will be useful in finding answers. Thanks!
Fawn,
DeleteI did not pick UNESCO, but growing up in Senegal; I was aware of the wonderful work they do in peace building and the education of women and young girls. I know you were not interested in the positions they are currently offering, but they also have short-term appointments and consulting jobs that I thought were very interesting. I think I would rather pick a temporary position if I were to go to a new country, just in case I do not like living there. Thank you for sharing this information

Fawn,
ReplyDeleteI also took a look at the Association for Childhood Education International since it was one that I had not heard of before. It was one that I felt connected with the children as well as dealing with others who are involved with them on a day to day basis.
